Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP) is a neuropeptide that was first discovered in the cerebral venous blood of rabbits during sleep. As its name suggests, DSIP has been primarily recognized for its potential role in inducing and regulating sleep patterns. It appears to have a pronounced influence on rapid eye movement (REM) sleep by possibly increasing its duration and density. The peptide's exact mechanism of action remains a topic of research, but it is believed to be involved in somnogenic and sleep-modulating processes.

While the most notable characteristic of DSIP is its potential sleep-regulating property, the peptide has also been explored for other possible physiological effects. Some studies suggest it may have antioxidant, stress-protective, and even anticonvulsant properties. However, the full spectrum of DSIP's effects and its therapeutic potential is not entirely understood. More extensive and controlled clinical trials are required to elucidate its efficacy, applications, and safety profile.
